Each year the Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls presents scholarships to four college students from funds raised through raffles. SME Awards 2018 Scholarships

Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls (SME) announces the winners of the 2018 scholarship competition. Four finalists are selected to compete in a sales role-play to determine the amount of their scholarship. Points are awarded based on creativity, presentation skills, interaction skills, knowledge of the product or service, sales and persuasion, and ability to respond to questions and objections.

Taking first place and earning $2000 was Ty Dillabough from Northern State University. Second place and $1500 was awarded to Lindsey Vogl from Dakota State University. Honorable mentions and $1000 were awarded to Brett Shepley and Christina Demissie both from Augustana University.

SME has awarded over $194,500 in college scholarships since 1990 and has supported South Dakota Youth Business Adventure to the tune of $247,500.  These awards, plus prior support to Junior Achievement of SD and other organizations have brought total contributions to youth in the state to over half a million dollars.

SME Awards 2017 Scholarships

Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls (SME) announces the winners of the 2017 scholarship competition. Points are awarded based on creativity, presentation skills, interaction skills, knowledge of the product or service, sales and persuasion, and ability to respond to questions and objections.

Taking first place and earning $2500 was JiYoung Hur, University of South Dakota. Second place and $2000 was awarded to Cierra Schneider, Dakota Wesleyan University. Honorable mentions and $1000 were awarded to Dalton Cox, South Dakota State University and Emilee Shostrom, University of South Dakota.

SME has awarded over $188,000 in scholarships since 1990.

SME Awards 2016 Scholarships

SME Awarded $7500 in scholarships to four deserving students in 2016 from proceeds raised at the 2015 SME Youth Benefit Auction. Samuel Williams, a student at Augustana University received the $3,000 scholarship. SME Awards 2015 Scholarships

$2500 Winner — Kaitlyn Conner, Augustana College: Katie presented a complete business plan for “Black Onyx” A Premium Coffee Shop Kiosk to be located in the entrance or main floor of a large employer’s facility. Her presentation included a full menu, business cards with logo’s, revenue forecasts, estimated startup expenses, a lease agreement, hours of operation, and a blueprint of the space. The panel all believed this was an actual business!

$2,000 Winner — Sam Williams, Augustana College: Sam presented a new and unique business idea to a potential investor/partner. The restaurant’s name was “Feelings” – which would be an “Artisan Ice Cream Shop & Bakery” – His presentation included a hilarious 30 second radio commercial and complete print marketing plan that was centered around the idea that its ok to “Eat your Feelings” His menu included items such as “Cry Baby Cookies”. Everyone loved the humorous marketing plan.

$1,500 Winner — Rachelle Moore, University of South Dakota: Rachelle sold Go-Pro cameras to a potential retail distributor. Her presentation included an actual Go-Pro camera, a full product demonstration, and a highly interactive sales conversation.

$1,000 Winner — Kayla Perrion – Northern State University: Kayla was selling a planning engagement to a business owner. Her event planning business, “Events Specialist Plus” (ESP) had a complete presentation of all her personal and corporate event planning services. She included a great summary chart of different locations and corresponding prices for various types of events, like a company picnic. Her business slogan was “We take the planning out of event planning”

$1,000 Winner — Cassandra Morgan – Dakota State University: Cassandra was selling her new product, “Dairy Test Strips” to a potential retailer. Her unique and new idea was centered around a test strip that consumers could use to determine whether or not their milk was spoiled. Her presentation included a sales contract, sales projections, and a complete breakdown of the costs and potential revenue from her innovative new product.

 

SME Awards 2014 Scholarships

Three South Dakota college students were awarded a total of $5500 in scholarships from the Sales & Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls at their annual meeting on April 22, 2014.

The three finalists were selected from 20 applicants from across South Dakota. As finalists they shared a 15-minute presentation selling a business or product to a panel of sales and marketing professionals. Each year SME awards scholarships to students pursuing degrees in Business, Management, Sales or Marketing.

A $3000 award was given to Rachelle Moore of Artesian, SD, who attends Dakota State University. A $1500 award was given to Erin Williams of Watertown, SD a student at Augustana. A scholarship of $1000 was awarded to Jared Stearns of Worthing, SD who attends Dakota Wesleyan University.

Each fall SME Sioux Falls hosts the SME Youth Benefit Auction which raises funds for these scholarships. SME has awarded scholarships to South Dakota college students for 24 years for a total of $164,000.

 

SME Awards 2013 Scholarships

On April 23, 2013 members of the SME Scholarship Committee met at Callaways and judged the four finalists for the SME Scholarship Awards. The SME Board of directors had voted to add an additional $1000 scholarship to the already designated $5500 that was to be given away. Winners that day of the SME Scholarships were $3000 Kelli Bones; $1500 Emily Murtha; $1000 Erin Williams and $1000 Jade Possail.

SME Awards 2012 Scholarships

In April of 2012, SME Sioux Falls awarded $5500 in scholarships to three talented students

Kelli Bones, University of Sioux Falls received a $1000 scholarship

 

Jennifer Kilber, Northern State University received a $1500 scholarship

 

Leah Hansen of Augustana received a $3000 scholarship.

 

 

SME Awards 2011 Scholarships

In April of 2011, SME Sioux Falls awarded $5500 in scholarships to three talented students.

Tyler Steinkamp, of Spencer, IA, a student of South Dakota State University received a $3000 Scholarship.

 

Andrea Hass of Westbrook, MN a student of Augustana College received a $1500 Scholarship.

 

Kaitlyn Hemmingson, of Spearfish, SD a student of South Dakota State University received a $1000 Scholarship.

 

These winners were presented their final awards at the SME Membership Meeting held on April 19th at the Hilton Garden Inn by SME President Doug Erickson and SME Scholarship Committee Chair Audra Staebell.

 

SME Awards 2010 Scholarships

At a the April 2010 Membership meeting of the Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls (SME) held at the Hilton Garden Inn, SME awarded $8,500 in scholarships to four talented individuals.

The $4000 Scholarship winner was Dustin Pratt from Castlewood, SD who is attending the University of South Dakota.

 

The $2000 Scholarship winner was Katelyn Tobin from Eden Prairie, MN who is attending Augustana.

 

One $1250 Scholarship winner is Kaitlyn Hemmingson from Spearfish, SD who is attending South Dakota State University and the other $1250 Scholarship winner is Andrew Nelson from Sioux Falls, SD who is attending the University of South Dakota.

 

Cindy Elifrits Peterson and Anita Wetsch, the 2009-10 SME President presented the awards.These four individuals participated in an oral presentation including a 15-minute role-play in selling/marketing a service or product. Members of the SME were judges for the oral presentations.

 

SME Awards 2009 Scholarships

The $4000 Scholarship winner was Suzanne Watts from Sioux Falls, SD who is attending South Dakota State University and presented Stair Step Storage.

The $1500 Scholarship winner was Paula Dirksen from Twin Brooks, SD who is attending Augustana and presented Athena’s Adventures.

One $1000 Scholarship winner is Kari Hipsak from Bismarck, ND who is attending Augustana and presented Karry-Alls and the other $1000 Scholarship winner is Abby Mehlbrech from Salem, SD who is attending Dakota State University and presented AFLAC.

These four individuals participated in an oral presentation including a 15-minute role-play in selling/marketing a service or product. Members of SME were judges for the oral presentations. The students are pictured with Cindy Petersen and Diane Mulloy, members of the Scholarship Committee.

 

SME Awards 2008 Scholarships

Jenny Grabinger a student at Dakota State University in Madison, SD won $4,000

Stella Dietrich a student at Colorado Technical University in Sioux Falls, SD won $3,000.

Kelsey Aamlid and Paula Dirksen both students at Augustana in Sioux Falls, SD won $2,000 each.

These four individuals participated in an oral presentation, including a 15-minute role-play in selling/marketing a service or product. Members of the SME were judges for the oral presentations.

The evening dinner presentation event featured Speaker V J Smith on the topic “The Exceptional Employee” with the meeting sponsored by First PREMIER Bank / PREMIER Bankcard.

 

SME Awards 2007 Scholarships

Susie Watts and Katie Hendrickson both students at South Dakota State University each won $2000.

Travis Rhoades from the University of South Dakota won $3000.

Jordan Mueller from Augustana won $4000.
