Neil Ihde – Life IQ Essentials

Life IQ is about figuring out who you are, the kind of life you want to lead, and making the choices to achieve it.
  • Self-awareness enables us to understand our emotions and regulate them.
  • Only 20% of people are self-aware and can describe themselves as people perceive them.
Taking control of your life is all about minimizing the dissonance, the stress, the anxiety that comes when your time and life are not aligned with your values and priorities. If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.
  • Our moment by moment decisions create the future we will live.
  • Decision making comes down to how we value those things on which we are deciding.
  • When you know what is most important to you, making decisions is a simple process.
  • Knowing what our values are and then learning to live by them is one of the most powerful ways to gain purpose and decrease stress levels.

The more our behavior is out of line with our values, the more stress and inner chaos we will feel. Clarify your values to help with decision making.

We spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need to
create impressions that won’t last on people we don’t care about.
– Tim Jackson, University of Surrey

We have experienced five years of change in six months. The sooner we accept a new reality, the better off we are going to be. We yearn for what was but at some point that becomes detrimental.
Circle of Concern versus Circle of Influence. What can we do in our Circle of Influence?
1) Be gracious
2) Show Appreciation
3) Tell your resilient stories
Be unavailable by creating intentional space.
One decision makes 1,000 decisions. Be intentional with what you are trying to achieve.
What can you do to avoid the mistake of saying “yes” when you know the answer should be “no”?
  • Separate the decision from the relationships.
  • Use choose to instead of have to language.
  • Avoid working with people who don’t respect your priorities.
  • Understand that saying “yes” means you need to say “no” to another part of your life.

Prioritize what you have committed to.

The difference between successful people and really successful people
is that really successful people say no to almost everything.
– Warren Buffett
