Looking to the Future, Grateful of the Past

As many of you may know, the Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls is in the process of a significant change in our leadership at the end of December. Sue Ford, KAJ Enterprises, Inc., is retiring as the CEO of SME.  We are thankful for her exemplary service, and as we look to the future, we will always embrace the past hard work of others. As I have been thinking about the future of SME and what that might look like, I came across this quote from the famous philosopher George Santayana written in 1896, Reason in Common Sense, the Life of Reason, volume 1.

“The things and deeds we did in past are now to give us fruit in present and in the future. And our present, which is going to be our past, will give us its fruit in the future. What affects the future? Experience affects the future. Future can never be predicted, but we can strive to make it better by means of the past experiences. Without knowing the past, we repeat mistakes made in the past, and destroy our future. We can’t say that we are guessing future upon the past, but in some way, we can perk up our future by relating it to the events take place in past, and work to make it enhanced. No one knows what will happen in the future, but the past lends us a hand and lead us to our destiny. The more you know about history, the more you will be ready to build your future.”

In this season of gratefulness and appreciation, I want to reflect on all the good fortune that we as the Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls have had for the last 17 years with the leadership and direction of CEO, Sue Ford. Her tenacity to get things done, her loyalty and passion for the organization will always be greatly appreciated. Sue helped to build this organization to the level of excellence it is today. I want to personally thank Sue for the outstanding level of professionalism she has brought to role of CEO.

But as the seasons change, so does the direction of SME. So, with the fruit of the present, I have the privilege to announce our new association management company, Maximizing Excellence, LLC and our new Executive Director, Kacey McCarthy. I want to welcome Kacey and I look forward to the exciting new future for SME.

Kacey McCarthy has been with Maximizing Excellence, LLC since May 2017 as the Project & Brand Director. Prior to joining the MELLC team, Kacey spent 14 years with Sioux Empire United Way, most recently as the campaign director.
