2018 Golf JAM Raises Money for American Cancer Society

What happens when you get 100 people together on a beautiful South Dakota summer day? The annual SME Golf JAM, of course! This year’s event took place on August 14 at Spring Creek Country Club. Even a brief rain shower could not dampen the enthusiasm members and guests had for spending the day on the course. The JAM, which stands for Join-A-Member, did not disappoint, bringing in 10 new members in August and September. In addition to new members, new friendships and connections were made among existing members who had the opportunity to play a few holes, have a few beverages and get to know each other better.

Another side of the annual JAM shows the compassion SME has for its members by raising money for something or someone near and dear. This year, through the mulligans and benefactor donations, $2210.53 was raised for the American Cancer Society in recognition of SME members who are going through, or who have gone through, cancer treatment.

The annual Golf JAM would not be possible without the work of a great committee, numerous volunteers and the dedication of Sue Ford. Planning begins months in advance with course selection, securing sponsorships, getting pin prizes and hole-in-one prizes, and organizing teams and volunteers to be present on the course that day. Even non-golfers are guaranteed to have a great time. If you haven’t been part of the Golf JAM, please plan on joining in the fun next year.
